Our Privacy Commitment
At MangaJoy ("we", "our", or "us"), we firmly believe your reading habits, bookshelf contents, and language study materials are strictly private and belong exclusively to you.
MangaJoy is engineered from the ground up as a native macOS application prioritizing offline-first local processing. We do not run external tracking scripts, we do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect, transmit, monetize, or sell any of your personal reading data.
On-Device Local Processing
All core intelligent reading features operate entirely on your Mac:
- Manga Files & Reading Content: All manga archives, comic books (CBZ/CBR/ZIP/RAR/PDF/folder), and images you open remain strictly in your local Mac storage. No manga pages or speech bubble images are ever uploaded to cloud servers.
- Live-Text OCR: Text extraction from speech bubbles is performed on-device utilizing Apple's native Vision framework and Neural Engine APIs.
- Yomitan Dictionaries & Furigana Lookup: Your dictionary lookups, term definitions, pitch accents, and furigana tokenization run locally in an embedded offline SQLite/Rust engine.
- Speech Synthesis (TTS): Text-to-speech audio narration utilizes the native macOS system speech synthesizer or local on-device neural voice models (such as Qwen3-TTS via Apple MLX / Metal). No synthesized text or audio clips are transmitted over the network.
Information We Do Not Collect
Because MangaJoy operates locally, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or contact details (no account registration required).
- The titles, covers, or contents of any manga or files you open.
- Your reading progress, reading speed, bookmarks, or reading timestamps.
- Your dictionary search history or vocabulary lists.
- Behavioral analytics, screen view tracking, or third-party marketing identifiers.
Apple Services & Subscriptions
MangaJoy utilizes standard Apple platforms for distribution and optional purchases:
- Apple TestFlight & App Store: If you participate in our TestFlight beta or install MangaJoy via the Mac App Store, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash reports and installation statistics if you have opted into sharing analytics with developers in your macOS System Settings. These diagnostics are managed under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- In-App Purchases & Subscriptions: All transactions and subscription billing are processed securely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see or have access to your credit card numbers, billing addresses, or banking details.
Data Storage & macOS Sandboxing
MangaJoy complies with Apple's strict macOS App Sandbox guidelines. The app only accesses files and directories that you explicitly select using standard macOS file open dialogues or drag-and-drop actions.
Your application preferences, custom dictionary files, and cache files reside exclusively within your user account's sandboxed Application Support directory on your Mac and can be deleted at any time simply by removing the application data.
Children's Privacy
MangaJoy does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
